Where to find help with increases in everyday bills

Help with increases in everyday bills

Over the last few months, many of us have noticed gradual increases in the cost of everyday bills. Whether this is the price of our weekly shop, filling the car with fuel, or heating our homes. Costs seem set to continue to increase, and this may cause you further strain or anxiety.

The Church of England has put together this information to help you find out about and access support you might be entitled to, hopefully helping you in the months ahead. This page draws from information published by the Government, other charities, and the wider Church.

Help with energy bills

Government schemes

On the 8th September, the Government announced plans for a new Energy Price Guarantee for UK households (which will take effect from 1 October 2022 for 2 years), in addition to the support schemes announced earlier this year. For more details, please look at the Energy bills support factsheet: 8 September 2022 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

As we head towards the winter, you might also be able to apply for further payments towards the cost of heating your home, depending on your personal circumstances. Please go to Grants and benefits to help you pay your energy bills - Citizens Advice, to find out more about the targeted help available from the Government and local authorities (e.g. the Winter Fuel and Cold Weather payments).
